We offer several On-premise activities to our guests of the Bear Run Inn Cabins & Cottages.

If you  are looking for Off-premise activities, the Hocking Hills and surrounding area are full of fun for all ages. Please contact or stop by our local Hocking Hills Welcome Center for specific information on these and other activities and events in the surrounding area.

Photography Subjects

The Bear Run Inn Cabins & Cottages offers some of the best year round opportunities for photography in the Hocking Hills. The low density human traffic makes our property the perfect place to find those elusive species. The bio-diverse plant and tree species make finding photo ops just as numerous. Aside from the wildlife, other possible photo subjects include old barns, farm animals, starts, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

For those photographers looking to get some help in taking that perfect photo, Hocking Hills Photographer, Eric Hoffman is available for photo instruction.

Hiking

Come hike and explore nature's scenic beauty in the middle of our 600 private acres. We have worked for several years to preserve, promote and maintain a bio-diversified, natural area. Our property consists of  mixes of mature hardwood forests, young growth forests ,open hay fields, pastures and wildflower meadows including four ponds. We invite you to witness the natural world of the deer and turkey enjoying meals of beechnuts and acorns while the butterflies dance on wildflowers swaying over large meadows.

Relaxing by the Campfire

Enjoy an evening circled around a cozy campfire. Our Red Oak Cabin has its own private shelter house, fire pit and pond. The Redbud Cabin and Goldilocks Cottage both have their own fire pits. In addition, there is the main pond with a shelter house which includes a fire ring and a charcoal grill.

Firewood Alert!

Do not move firewood into Hocking County. It is illegal to move firewood out of Ohio Quarantined counties. Violators face up to $4,000.00 fines. Please buy your firewood from local vendors within Hocking County. Ohio is facing a crisis with the devastating Emerald Ash Borer. Please help us keep this invasive bug out of Hocking County.

Fishing

Spend some time fishing for Bass, Bluegill, and Catfish in our stocked ponds. Fishing license is not required! Just remember to bring your rod, tackle and bait. Sorry, no swimming permitted.

Buggy/Sleigh/Hay Wagon Rides

We offer authentic Amish buggy, sleigh and hay wagon rides pulled with one or more of our several horses. Experience the high speed thrill, slow and enjoyable pace of a single horse trotting ahead of an Amish Surry or the combined effort of a team of large draft horses pulling a wagonload of guests. We are sure you will enjoy the ride! (Weather and availability permitting)

Farm Animal Viewing

Please feel free to visit our farm where you will find up to 11 horses, a mule, several goats and rabbits. Our farm is only a short walk away from the Bear Run Inn Cabins & Cottages.

Wildlife Viewing & Birding

Our bio-diversified property provides abundant habitat for wildlife including butterflies, birds, turkey and deer. Whether a first time bird watcher, or a seasoned birder, you will find our large expanse of property full of all types of bird species native to Ohio.  Bring your binoculars and favorite bird book to help identify some of nature's finest winged beauty! Photographers will find our property full of opportunities for that once in a lifetime shot.

Star/Planet Gazing

Although the rest of the world is getting more and more light pollution, Southeastern Ohio still has some of the darkest nights in the State of Ohio. Bear Run Inn Cabins & Cottages, free from even the smallest light pollution, along with our several hilltops, makes for some awe-inspiring star and moon gazing. Bring your telescope for an excellent vantage point in celestial studies...or just a blanket and bottle of wine and let the heavens speak to you.

We have oodles of wide open spaces for some great spring kite flying, Frisbee throwing, or just plain running up and down the sun soaked green fields. Bring your favorite kite and string.

ORV Recreation/Motorcycle Riding

Wayne National Forest holds the distinction of being Ohio's only national forest. A "patchwork" of land covering nearly a quarter of a million acres scattered across 12 counties in an 834,000-acre area, Wayne National Forest, Ohio is divided into three separate units. One of these, the Athens district, includes the Hocking Hills within its territory. Approximately 10 minute drive to nearby New Straightsville Trail Head from Bear Run Inn Cabins & Cottages. Yearly Festivals and Events
 

Appalachian music and Zydeco music make the Annual Washboard Music Festival a huge Ohio attraction. Artists, crafters, and children's activities come together for one of our favorite Ohio festivals. Washboard music lovers (and even those who've never experienced it before!) will find no better example of this unique and deeply-traditional form of Appalachian music. Washboard Music Festival
